Road Race Evening Postponed

Owing to the current bad weather, the Road Race 2010 meeting has been postponed until 14th January at the Corinium Stadium at 8pm.

Alan Tebbutt Dies at 79

The best way of describing Alan Tebbutt was that he was Bristol's equivalent of a "Ron Diplock"  He didn't race but organised many events, especially the annual WTTA 100 miles TT that came into Ciren each year.  Annually, after Ron died he would ring me (Allan Norwood) and I believe Mike Appleby to try and get Corinium to supply marshals in this area and frequently Mike and I and others helped.  His wife Janet Tebbutt is a past holder of of the Women's UK "End to End" record and very well known in Bristol and beyond.  The funeral was well attended by Bristol Club's and Westvets + friends and relatives.

Corinium at Cheltenham Cyclocross

A larger than average field signed on for Round 9 of the Western Cyclocross league organised by Cheltenham and County CC, held at Pitville Park Cheltenham on Sunday. A rather large contigent from Coventry were evident including former World Veteran Champion, Mick Ives and former elite rider, and the winner of the race, Darren Atkins. Darren's father was John Atkins who was 12 times National cyclocross champion in the 1960's and 70's.

The ground was wet from a few days of rain but the weather held for most of the race. David Phillips got a good start and maintained his position throughout the race, despite having to clear mud from his bike a couple of times, and one small tumble. He finished in 10th place overall, 6th veteran. Gordon Smillie also rode and came in 39th place.

Corinium at Newbury Cyclocross

Another good team turn out on damp and sketchy conditions for the Didcot Phoenix round 2 of the Wessex Cyclocross league. The event was run at the Newbury Showground on Sunday 11th October.

Pictured above (from left) are Graham Hughes, Paul Burnip, David Phillips (best placed Corinium rider and fresh from his vets win at Bristol the previous week) and Nick Walmsley (fresh(?) from his 3 Peaks outing)
