David Phillips and Nick Walmsley signed on with 40 riders on Saturday 6th Feb on a cold damp morning for the second 3rd/4th category race in the Upavon series. The bunch started at an electric pace almost catching the E/1/2 race ahead. During the chaos Lewis King and Ralph Carter (London Dynamo)managed to break away and managed to gain over 30 seconds on the bunch. Lewis got dropped by Ralph and with still 30 minutes of racing to go David Phillips made his move and accelerated away from the bunch chased by one other rider, Jim Marshall (Inverse racing). The two riders worked together to catch Ralph, and then the three riders took turns, working well together , keeping the pace up and opening a comfortable gap on the bunch. In the final uphill Ralph sprinted to the finish, but misjudged the finish line and was overtaken by David Phillips who celebrated his first win in 30 years. Chapeau David!
